DOT #
Any vehicle with a gross combination vehicle weight (CGVW) above 10,000 lbs, and hauling in a commercial capacity, is required to have a DOT number. There are two types of DOT numbers you can apply for.
Intrastate - For carriers who stay in the state only.
Interstate - For carriers who cross state lines
MC #
Also referred to as operating authority, any carrier hauling regulated freight for-hire, across state lines will need to obtain an MC#. It is a one time fee of $300 to apply for an MC# and the process time is around three weeks.
BOC-3
Also referred to as a process agent. Any carrier that applies for an MC#, must also have a BOC-3 filed with the FMCSA. A BOC-3 filing is a federal filing that assigns a process agent to accept legal documents on behalf of a company in each state in which the company is authorized to do business
IRP
Also refereed to as " Apportioned" or "Prorate" plates. The International Registration Plan (IRP) is a licensing compact between member jurisdictions includes all US states and the Canadian provinces. Apportioned registration is an optional method of registration that provides for licensing a fleet of vehicles, operating in two or more jurisdictions
IFTA
International Fuel Tax Agreement. This is for any motor carrier operating in two or more jurisdictions and your registered gross vehicle weight must exceed 26,000 pounds. Once you have obtained your IFTA credentials, you are required to file quarterly tax reports showing all miles traveled and fuel consumed in all member jurisdictions
UCR
Unified Carrier Registration. UCR is a annual filing for any motor carrier with an interstate DOT number. The cost is dependent on how man trucks you have that cross the state line.
Form 2290
MCS-150
This is a bi-annual update of your US Dot Number. Every two years you are required to update your DOT number. When you're required to update is based off the last two digits of your DOT number. NE Sales Tax Exemption
Any motor carrier that is hauls in a for-hire capacity qualifies for a sales tax exemption number. This is issued by the Nebraska Department of Revenue. This number exempts ou for having to pay sales tax on any truck or trailer purchase, as well as any parts.
Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse
All motor carriers must register with the FMCSA drug & alcohol clearinghouse. Once registered, a query must be ran every twelve months on any driver operating under your DOT number. This includes owner-operators with only one truck.
Saftey Audit
Any new US DOT number that is listed as Interstate is subject to the new entrant safety audit. This is an online audit where the necessary documents are uploaded to your audit portal. Please contact us for information on how we can assist you through this process.
